Local Information in South Devon

Some useful information about the surrounding area to help you on your holiday including transportation and exploration, Weather, Surfing Information and Local Walks.

Local Walks

Parkland is located one mile (as the crow flies and by road) from Kingsbridge. You can walk to Kingsbridge from the site, this is approximately 1.5 miles. The walk starts from the site along the grass verge, then a quiet country lane with the remaining mile on the inland footpath.

We are just a short car journey away from some amazing walks on the South West Coast Path along with scenic inland walks in this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Local Buses

Our nearest bus stop is at Sorley Green, approximately 500 yards from the site. From here you can catch the bus (164 bus) to Totnes, with connecting services to Newton Abbot/ Exeter or Torquay.

Alternatively you can take the bus down into Kingsbridge and carry onto Salcombe, or change for the services (number 3 bus) to Dartmouth or Plymouth.

We would certainly recommend taking the bus to Salcombe as parking is limited in the town, the same for Dartmouth, unless you use the Park and Ride.

Taxi

A selection of taxi companies operate out of Kingsbridge, we would be happy to provide you with information on local taxi companies on request.

Car Hire

Want to go exploring and leave the motorhome pitched? You could always hire a car locally:

Alpha Car Hire, Kingsbridge
BH Autobodies, Totnes

Or you can always hire an electric bike from E-Xplore at Churchstow

Car Parking

The main towns and villages, and some beaches have easy accessible car parks which are operated by the local council. We would recommend that you download the RINGO app, this saves worrying about having the correct change.

There are also some privately owned car parks which offer contactless payment but some are still cash, and National Trust car parks use the PAYBYPHONEAPP. (free if you are a member)

Motorhome Parking and Height Restrictions

If you are out and about in your motorhome please be advised that the following car parks have height restrictions:

Totnes (Civic Hall and Victoria Street)
Slapton (Memorial)
Salcombe (Park and walk)

Daytime parking is available in selected car parks in Totnes, Ivybridge and Modbury, for Dartmouth please use the Park and Ride car park.
